Ryan Day's world has been rocked since late November...first with his initial Big Ten loss at Michigan, and now with the opt-outs of four players whose decision to sit out the Rose Bowl will inspire much conversation before the Saturday kickoff against Utah.
Ohio State parlayed a win over then-No. 1 Duke into a four-game winning streak and a move into the middle of the Top 25, but the COVID door slammed shut on the Buckeyes and has now claimed the end of the non-conference schedule with the cancellation of a third straight game.
The group failed to convert on third down, was heavily penalized and hot and cold when it came to protecting quarterback CJ Stroud when hit in the mouth by Oregon, Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan.
