If you want a career like that of our resident hall of fame columnist Hal McCoy, or if you just want to train someone to be like Hal, you might want to read, and apply, for an annual Press Pros opportunity that can help your dream come true.

It’s that time of year…good cheer and good news…for those who honestly believe that with every new year comes a new opportunity. Press Pros would like to help.

It’s the annual time to remind those who are thinking about a career in journalism, communications, or in language arts…you might want to apply for the 2019 Hal McCoy Scholarship Award from Press Pros Magazine and sponsored by the Unity National Bank.

In its eighth year, the McCoy scholarship is for those who want to pursue a degree in journalism or communications from an accredited college or university…writing or broadcast…or in the case of one previous winner, you might want to become a language arts instructor in your local school. In Hal’s name we’re able to award a deserving area student from Miami, Shelby, Mercer, Auglaize, Darke, Champaign, Preble and Montgomery county $2,500 towards achieving your goal, but you’ve got to apply.

“I’m honored to have my name associated with such a generous gesture of support,” says Hal. “I know this…$2,500 would have come in very handy when I was a struggling journalism major at Kent State University back in the 60s. I’m pleased to be a part of this.”

hal_inset1212If we’re talking to you, contact Press Pros for an application. Fill it out, send it back to us, and put yourself in the running. Given that this is a narrow field of interest, your chances of winning are very good. Just ask last year’s winner, Paige Thobe, from Minster High School.

“Unbelievable,” said Paige. “I really needed the help and this helps a lot.”

Paige is in her freshman year of journalism at Ohio State University, and her goal is to become a working journalist – maybe even another Hal McCoy.

It can happen to you, but you have contact us and apply. Deadline for your application has been moved up…to April 2, 2019. So let us hear from you today.
