When face-to-face defense doesn't work...In a game marred by poor shooting, turnovers, and lapses in scoring, Marion Local somehow found enough for a not-so-pretty Tuesday win over Russia.
Russia played Saturday like a team that's good enough to play as well as they need on a given night against any given opponent, gaining their 18th win, 60-42, over Versailles. Different from last year's state semi-finalists, they're still working to see how much more they can be.
Delphos St. John's buried 16 3-pointers against Versailles' typically staunch defense to claim an 81-48 runaway victory. Cam Elwer led the charge (above), cashing in 7 of 10 3-point attempts, and scoring 31 points.
Not a thing of beauty, nonetheless St. Henry scrapped and clawed for a while...then hung on to win on the road at Marion Local to gain the chair at the head of the table.
Is that going in? Marion Local's Austin Niekamp tracks the flight of a reverse layup that fell for two of his 19 points in a Friday over New Bremen. The Flyers survived a slow first half to pull away in the second half, 54-36. Alan Brads writes the story for Saturday Press Pros.
