If you’re thinking about a career in journalism, media, communications, or even language arts, don’t overlook this opportunity for a generous financial boost that can help you get started.
Frankly, it was the biggest surprise of Arcanum’s Francesca Hackworth’s senior year…or so she said.
You see, Francesca, a graduating senior last spring, was a late applicant for the Press Pros annual Hal McCoy Scholarship Award for graduating seniors who want to go to college and study journalism, communications, or even English. That’s right, if you want a career using words or journalistic media you can benefit from knowing more about Hal McCoy.
Francesca is currently studying journalism at the University of Dayton and got a big boost with the $2,500 dollars awarded by Press Pros.
“It’s a great help for kids starting out in school,” says McCoy. “I wish there had been $2,500 available like this when I was starting out at Kent State back in the 60s. That would have been a lot of money back then. I’m proud to lend my name to this effort.”
Well, you can be this year’s Francesca if you take the time to write to us (or have your guidance counselor contact us) for an application to the 2018 Hal McCoy Award. And, we’re announcing earlier than usual because we want an earlier response. Here are the criteria, which are pretty simple:
You must be a graduating senior to receive the one-time award.
You must attend a high school in the local eight-county Press Pros market – Miami, Shelby, Mercer, Darke, Auglaize, Champaign, Allen, and Montgomery.
You must plan on attending a school with an accredited program in journalism, communications, or language arts.
And you must apply by APRIL 1, 2018.
You have plenty of time, but don’t let time slip away. Just ask Francesca Hackworth.
For more information, contact us at Press Pros. Or, contact your local school counselor, principal, or superintendent. It’s the seventh year for this award, and someone will know how to direct you to us.
If you’d like to be like Hal…we’d like to hear from you.
