Parker Wynk’s Condition Improves…And The Power Of Prayer

Seriously injured in a football accident a week ago, Celina quarterback Parker Wynk continues to improve as a community of followers literally seek Divine intervention in his recovery.

There was good news throughout this week over the condition of Celina quarterback Parker Wynk, who sustained a serious spinal injury as a result of contact last week in the Bulldogs’ opening football game with St. Henry.

Wynk was paralyzed, removed from the field via emergency squad, was eventually care-flight to Children’s Hospital in Dayton, where he has spent the week in intensive care waiting for nothing more, or less, than a little good news.

Publisher Sonny Fulks writes OHSAA and Ohio State sports for Press Pros Magazine.com.

And that good news has emerged as his mother, Sierra, reported Wednesday through social media that feeling and sensation is returning to his limbs…that he’s been cleared to sit up in bed and eat and drink…and that she continues to pray for improvement.

As we all do who witness such inevitable incidents that sometimes come in the course of athletic competition.

Monday afternoon, former Ohio State football coach, and current Lt. Governor Jim Tressel paid a visit to Children’s to check on Wynk and encourage him to remain confident in his recovery.

There is an issue here that begs the respect of those who question the power of prayer, especially the kind that envelopes an entire community;  and in the growing case of Parker Wynk, people across the entire state.  Simply put, it works.

As one of the core principles of Scripture, David, the psalmist, wrote in Psalms 18 that God hears the cries of his people:  “In my distress I called to the Lord;  I cried to God for help.  From his temple he heard my voice, my cry came before him, and into his ears.”

And while we live in a day where spiritual belief is questioned – doubted – constantly, it is, on the other hand, another core principle that reliance on prayer is through faith (Ephesians 2).  “And this is not from yourselves.  It is the gift of God.”

I smile at the reports of Parker’s improvement for that reason, alone, above any importance of what happens on a football field.  Can there be any greater gift to Parker Wynk and family, than a community who relies on the power of prayer in life’s worst times?

Our continued best wishes to Parker, and to all of his supporters, and to those whose spirits must be in a state of renewed hope by the events of these past few days.  Some things, you see, have been set forth long before any of us even existed, as if God has always expected the needs of His people.  Read about that in Romans 8:29-30.

And can there be anything better than that?
