The Ohio State Buckeyes finished the weekend with a four-game split, winning the finale 8-2 over the Memphis Tigers. The bullpen shined with three scoreless innings.
Memphis, TN – The trip back to Columbus Sunday evening was made better by an 8-2 win over the Univesity of Memphis Tigers in the finale of the Buckeyes four-game series this weekend.
Losing two games to Louisiana Tech, while winning both games with Memphis, the Buckeyes stand 5-2 for the first two weeks while they prepare this week for next weekend’s final pre-Big Ten road trip to Houston, Texas.
Winning Sunday, starter Pierce Herrebruck was outstanding, scattering 3 runs and three hits over the first six innings to gain his first win as a Buckeye. Herrenbruck was a model of efficiency, striking out 3 and walking 2 in his six innings, and finished having thrown 97 pitches.
The Buckeyes made the most of 7 base hits, scoring twice in the second, twice in the third, once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and once in the seventh…shortstop Lee Ellis being the only hitter in the order to collect more than one hit, with two.
Of better news was the work of the bullpen, who worked the final three innings of the game without allowing a hit or a run – Jake Michalak, Luke Carrell, Nick Sawyer, Doug Bauer, and Andrew Edrington. Edrington finished off the ninth in style by striking out the side.
The Buckeye return home to prepare for Houston, Texas next weekend, where they’ll play the University of Texas San Antonio at Minute Maid Park on Friday, Mississippi on Saturday, and conclude the weekend against the University of Texas on Sunday.
They make their home debut for 2026 on Tuesday, March 3 with an afternoon date with Xavier University before opening Big Ten play on Friday, March 6 with a three-game set with UCLA at Bill Davis Stadium.
