Press Pros columnist Jeff Gilbert has been recognized by the Football Writers of America Association in the 33rd annual Best Writing Contest.
Press Pros Magazine.com is pleased to announce that one of our very own, columnist Jeff Gilbert, was recently recognized by the Football Writers of America Association for excellence in the association’s 33rd Annual Best Writing Contest.
Gilbert, a journalism professor at Cedarville University, was awarded 2nd place for his game story feature covering last year’s NCAA FBS National Championship game between Ohio State and the University of Notre Dame (https://pressprosmagazine.com/2025/01/21/no-doubt-about-it-buckeyes-are-national-champions/).
Gilbert finished second to a submission from Sports Illustrated, and ahead of a writer from 247 Sports/CBS Sports for third place recognition.
The Football Writers of America Association was founded in 1941, with over 1,200 members, and membership includes journalists, broadcasters, and publicists. The FWAA works to govern all areas that include game day operations, major awards, and an All-American team.
Gilbert joined the Press Pros staff in 2023 and is our beat source for both Ohio State football and men’s basketball. Previously, he wrote for the Roanoke (Virginia) Times as sports editor, covering The Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia Tech and University of Virginia football. And prior to Press Pros he worked for the Cox Media group, as a staff writer for the Dayton Daily News covering high school sports, the Dayton Flyers, and Reds Single-A affiliate, the Dayton Dragons, a beat he continues to cover for the DDN.
Jeff has won several Ohio Prep Sportstwriters Association awards; and in 2022, he won the freelancer best in show award given by the Society of Professional Journalists’ Best of Ohio contest,
