“Don’t worry about things that you can’t control…and be selfless, timely, and intentional with what you put your focus on.” – Victoria Heitkamp
Anna High School senior Victoria Heitkamp has been chosen as the recipient of the Bill Wells Press Pros Scholar/Athlete Scholarship to pursue a career in nursing.
To mark the 13th anniversary of Press Pros’ scholar-athlete awards, we expand the opportunities in 2025 with a unique award for high school seniors whose vision is to pursue a career in the critically-needed field of nursing.
And with the generous help of the Bill and Dorothy Davis Foundation, in Columbus, and President Jackie Wells, the first annual Bill Wells scholar-athlete award for nursing in 2025 has been awarded to Anna High School senior Victoria Heitkamp, who plans on attending the University of Cincinnati this coming fall to begin her studies.
Heitkamp is a track and soccer athlete at Anna, graduating with a GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of 29. And she gives credit in her personal essay to her track and field coach Brian Rioch for impacting her perspective on both the present and the future in her decision to enter the nursing field.
“He taught me that you can only focus on that which you can control. Don’t worry about things you can’t control. He instilled in me the value of being selfless, timely, and intentional with what I put my mind to.”
The Press Pros nursing scholarship is made possible by the Davis Foundation, in Columbus, and president Jackie Wells, whose late husband Bill first saw the value in supporting kids in small communities with big dreams through the Press Pros scholar-athlete endowment. Jackie, who grew up in Ada, Ohio, recognizes the unique reality of how good things and big impact can come from people in small places.”
“We’re delighted to be involved,” says Jackie Wells. “And that help of this kind can have such a big impact on those kids getting started.”
Heitkamp was chosen from a field of fourteen applicants, and those applications have been ranked by a panel of independent retired teachers and guidance counselors, based on grade point average, ACT/SAT score, athletic accomplishment, and personal essay.
She will receive the Bill Wells Scholarship for Development in the amount of $2,500 to help further her education in nursing this fall at Cincinnati.
2025 marks $140,000 dollars in scholar-athlete awards through Press Pros since the program began in 2014 – the largest such endowment of any online media source in Ohio.
