Simply put, take the contributions and leadership of Lehman quarterback Turner Lachey out of last week’s 45-35 win over Miami East and you’d have, well…a different outcome.
And for that reason, the Cavaliers’ 5’11” junior earns ‘Who’s Hot’ distinction, our latest Press Pros honoree.
A three-sport athlete at Lehman, Lachey completed 20 of 30 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns in the win over the Vikings. In addition, he ran the ball ten times for another 48 yards. In all, his contribution accounted for 470 total yards in the rapidly-improving Cavaliers’ most complete game of the season.
So striking was his impact that a sideline observer made the comment to us: “You’re looking at the best athlete in the Three Rivers Conference.” That speaks volumes!
“He’s a great kid, a great athlete (football, basketball and baseball), and he’s a leader,” says Lehman Athletic Director Mark Brunswick, who coaches him in baseball, come spring. The best athlete in the Three Rivers Conference? He plays the most demanding position on the diamond…shortstop…and plays it as if by second nature.
As further proof of his athletic qualities, he’s highly adaptable. As a sophomore last season Lachey earned honors as an all-stater in football…playing wide receiver.
“We were trying to get another quarterback to step up [this year], but nobody did,” says Cavalier coach Dwane Rowley. “He’s an athlete that plays and fits well in our offensive system. He’s a leader as well.”
“You get to control every play, you get the ball in your hand every play,” Lachey says of the quarterback position. “If you’re down, you’re the one that can choose to go up and win.”
Which is exactly what he did on Thursday, repeatedly meeting the challenge from Miami East, a team with its own assortment of scoring options. In a wild and woolly first half of points, Lachey guided the Cavaliers to 35 points and 319 yards by halftime.
His impact has the Cavaliers off to a 4-1 start, their best in the short history of the reconstituted Three Rivers Conference, averaging 35 points per game. Just four years ago Lehman struggled to win one game…1-9 in 2021.
With time to grow and a solid constituency of talent around him, it’s safe to say that Turner Lachey’s best days are still ahead. Our congratulations go out to him, with appreciation for being this week’s ‘Who’s Hot’ honoree on Press Pros.
On behalf of sponsor, the St. Henry Bank, Press Pros is happy to recognize this week’s ‘Who’s Hot’ honoree, Turner Lachey, of Sidney Lehman High School.
