Coming off his best night of the still-early 2024 season, Minster quarterback Brogan Stephey continues to reveal his arsenal of abilities .
You’ve heard the term. over-used, and misused for generations.
‘Special’.
It gets thrown around nearly every time someone does anything good in this day – a good play, a good game, or just being a good person. It’s used so much that it actually makes you appreciate the difference in seeing the real thing…when you see it!
Such is the case with Minster senior quarterback Brogan Stephey, who last week unofficially rushed for 94 yards, three touchdowns, and threw for 214 yards (20 for 24) – 308 total yards, individually. He led the Wildcats to a convincing 41-14 win over a talented Anna Rockets football team. He did enough – and he’s done it before – to garner ‘Who’s Hot’ recognition as this week’s Press Pros honoree.
Not to be redundant, but he has done it before. Stephey was our ‘Who’s Hot’ pick two years ago for nearly the same performance, as a sophomore, with another overwhelming statistical performance in a win over Parkway.
“Brogan is the first topic of conversation with everyone, and it’s deserved,” said Minster coach Seth Whiting, following Friday’s Anna win. “He’s an outstanding high school football player, he’s smart, and he does things the right way.”
How special?
In that Parkway game he threw the ball for five touchdowns and a school record 445 yards in a 48-20 win.
In the recent Anna game he threw for just 214 yards to help set up a five touchdown ground assault – including his own touchdown runs of 2 yards, 14 yards, and 55 yards – in a nearly identical result.
“We have confidence in our running game,” said Stephey. “We came in here tonight knowing what we can do. Our game plan was to play with balance, but we were running the ball well and we stuck to it.”
But the way he does it is special, because he doesn’t just run…he glides. He doesn’t just throw the football…he throws an easy ball to catch. He kinda’ flips it. And his issue in both his sophomore and junior season has been one of health. He was the MAC statistical leader in both passing and rushing both years when he missed the second half of the season with injuries.
Due to his contribution Friday, the Wildcats racked up 535 yards of total offense in what’s been a typical performance from the past…when he’s healthy. We’re hoping that he is in 2024 because it’s special to watch.
On behalf of our sponsor, the St. Henry Bank, we’re pleased to recognize Minster’s Brogan Stephey for a second time as this week’s ‘Who’s Hot’ honoree on Press Pros.
