Incoming athletic director Ross Bjork promised immediacy in naming the next baseball coach at Ohio State, and he followed through. Campbell University’s Justin Haire has been named to succeed Bill Mosiello.
Columbus, OH – In a surprising turn of events Ohio State has gone outside the program to find the successor to Bill Mosiello as the 13th baseball coach of the Buckeyes.
Justin Haire, the uber-successful coach at Campbell University (Coastal Athletic Association) was named at 9 am this morning, effective immediately.
Since taking over at Campbell in 2015 Haire has averaged 30 wins per year with the Camels, and has four times been named Big South Conference Coach of The Year!
Haire compiled 317 wins in that time, having served previously as the assistant head coach under Greg Goff, the current coach at Purdue University.
Haire’s hire does come as a surprise as it was widely concerning that an outside hire would trigger an exodus of the current roster through the portal. That remains to be seen.
Haire got heavy consideration for the Ohio State vacancy in 2022, following the firing of then coach Greg Beals, but finished as a runner-up to Bill Mosiello.
“We are so excited to welcome Justin Haire and his family to Ohio State to lead our baseball program into a new era,” said incoming athletic director Ross Bjork.
“We had a tremendous amount of interest in this position from successful coaches around the country, so it was exciting to see this search unfold. Coach Haire’s successful career as a head coach and track record of winning games in the NCAA Tournament made us stand up and take notice, and his deep Ohio roots are an added bonus. We believe Ohio State baseball can be a Big Ten contender and make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament under Justin’s leadership, and we are fired up for him to start here in Columbus.:
Haire is native of Hamilton, Ohio, and played as a collegiate at Bowling Green before serving as an assistant with the Falcons. Subsequently, he’s coached at Sterling College and Ouachita Baptist University, prior to taking the Campbell position in 2015.
