Botkins’ JJ Meyer and Fort Loramie’s Jaden Rose have been selected for the 2023 Press Pros Shelby County Sponsors’ Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, and again head a list of impressive applicants destined for success in whatever future competition they choose.
Their credentials were impressive – their qualifications unquestionable. Press Pros proudly announces that Botkins High School’s JJ Meyer and Fort Loramie High School’s Jaden Rose have been chosen as the recipients of the annual Shelby County League scholar-athlete scholarships, as funded by the sponsors of daily coverage of SCL events throughout the year on Press Pros.
Meyer’s selection marks the second consecutive Botkins scholar athlete to have been chosen, following Carter Pleiman in 2023, and his accomplishments are no less notable.
He’s a four-year member of the Botkins mens basketball program, a sectional, district, regional runner-up and state champion during those four years.
A three-sport athlete, he graduated this spring with a 3.80 GPA, and plans on attending Bowling Green State University to pursue a degree in finance.
In his personal essay, Meyer shared “After following in my brother’s footsteps and his success in basketball, I decided to blaze my own trail and set a goal for success in golf. After a three-golfer sudden death playoff at the Regional tournament, I finished first to secure a spot in the 2023 OHSAA state golf championship…one of the most amazing memories of my golf career.”
He also shared state tournament championship experience with his brother Jameson, a member of the Trojans’ 2021 Division IV state champions.
Our women’s recipient for 2024 is Fort Loramie’s Jaden Rose, another three-sport participant during her four years at Loramie in basketball, volleyball, and softball.
Rose is a captain for the Redskins’ womens basketball team, and a two-time state champion for Coach Carla Siegel, a member of the 2024 and 2021 teams title teams in Division IV.
Rose is the younger sister of Darian Rose, as well, a member of the Redskins first title team back in 2013.
In her personal essay Rose shared this: “Through competition I’ve learned how to face difficult challenges, tough competition, and tough environments. It taught me to have faith in myself. And it’s taught me to cherish the opportunities that each of us is given.”
She graduated this spring from Fort Loramie with a 3.99 GPA, with plans on attending Wright State University Lake Campus to pursue a career in elementary education. Jaden Rose wants to follow in the steps of her coach and mentor Carla Siegel…as a teacher!
She’s also distinguished for the being the third Fort Loramie student athlete to have been chosen as the Press Pros Sponsors Scholar/Athlete Scholarship in the last four years.
Recipients’ applications are ranked by panel of independent retired teachers and guidance counselors, based on grade point average, ACT/SAT score, athletic accomplishment, and personal essay.
Pleiman and Turner will each receive the Press Pros Stan Wilker Sponsors’ Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to help further their scholastic and athletic pursuits this fall. And 2024 marks $115,000 dollars in scholar-athlete awards through Press Pros since the program began in 2014 – the largest such endowment of any online media source in southwest Ohio.
