High Scores, Unpredictable Results Mark Day One Of MAC Tourney

Miracle Lanes in Fort Recovery coughed up some big scores during a long day of competition in the boys round of the MAC bowling tournament.

Fort Recovery, OH – They got started late, but bowlers turned that circumstance into making up for lost time on day 1 of the annual MAC bowling tournament Friday.

After two individual rounds, and a pair of 5-game Baker rounds, Coldwater emerged as the top dog in boys competition after this year’s tournament.

In order of finish:  (1) Coldwater, (2) Minster, (3) Fort Recovery, (4) New Bremen), (5) St. Henry, (6) Versailles, (7) Marion Local, and (8) Parkway

That much of day one was predictable for the fact that Coldwater has set a blistering pace all year, leading the MAC standings without having suffered a loss in league play over three months.

And overall, the final results of tourney were a bit jumbled compared to the regular season…with the exception of Minster, who jumped from fifth during the regular season to finish first, ahead of Coldwater, on Friday.  Fort Recovery finished third, New Bremen fell from second to fourth, and St. Henry came in  fifth.

What you can’t predict so often in bowling are the individual highs that make the game compelling to watch, even when your team is having an off day.

For instance:

Carter Bertke led Coldwater with a 253 game, while teammate Nick Wehrman chipped in a 220 and 228.

Brady Keller had a 266 for New Bremen, while teammate Carson Keller was right on his bumper with a 245.

Jacob Lefeld had the high mark for the St. Henry boys with a 227.

Minster’s Ryland Edwards abused the Miracle Lanes pins for a 268.

Speedway Lanes, in New Bremen, is proud to support bowling on Press Pros Magazine.com.

Versailles’ Austin Ruhenkamp delivered a 266 in individual games, while teammate Colton Groff was a model of consistency with a 245 and a 246.

Marion Local’s Vincent Winner had one of his best days of the season with a 228, followed by a 199.

It was the final tuneup before next week’s Sectional round of the OHSAA tournament at Community Lanes, in Minster.  And if you missed the boys on Friday…you can catch the girls action in Fort Recovery on Saturday, beginning at 9:15 AM.
