‘Til We Meet Again (?)…Remembering ‘Roz’

One of the most interesting people I’ve ever met, and one I’ll certainly never forget.  Roz taught me to appreciate psychics for their ability to do things you cannot understand.  You just wonder how they do it.

When I wrote about ‘Roz’ during Ohio State’s NCAA regional baseball appearance in Nashville in June of 2019 (https://staging.pressprosmagazine.com/from-the-ncaa-tourney-nashville-and-a-town-of-different-talents) it was one of the strangest interviews and stories I’ve ever done.  I told her as much then…and it didn’t faze Roz one iota.

At the time, sitting in Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park, where many of country music’s biggest stars currently rest, she just shrugged and said, “Nashville is a town of stars, fiddlers, and freaks, so I guess I fit right in.”  In a town of many talents hers was performing as a ‘medium’, connecting fans through her psychic gift with passed on country stars like Johnny Paycheck, Tammy Wynette, and even George Jones, whom she said was one of the most popular.

Now how she did this I don’t know.  I spent two hours with her that day as she relayed communication with singer Johnny Paycheck to me, although I couldn’t hear a word.

But other clients swore by her;  a couple from Kentucky who after a session with George Jones once produced a pair of record albums that were inscribed by Jones twenty five years earlier, just as he detailed to Roz telepathically (I guess).  She didn’t know the albums existed, as they were stashed away in the couple’s car.  But everything was there, just as Roz had quoted, word for word.

Married once, her husband died in a boating accident nearly thirty years ago.  And when I met her through a college friend years later, and learned that she was ‘psychic’, I was humorously cynical of her.  She said to me, “What if I told you how much money you have in your wallet, and the serial numbers on the bills?  Would you believe me then?”  Surprised by her audacity, I consented, and she nailed it…a hundred dollar bill, two fifties, a twenty and a five.  And she rattled off serial numbers like zip codes.

She moved back to Ohio from Nashville early this year with some health issues, and passed away recently from kidney failure.  A few weeks ago she contacted me.  She wanted to visit.  Pale and weak, she brightened the moment I walked into her room.  She reached for my hand and asked me to sit down.  And for the next forty minutes we talked – mostly she talked – and I can truthfully say, in full character.  She was psychic to the end.

She always talked about her ‘aura’, and on this day when I asked her if she had any trepidation about dying she smiled and said, “My aura is as bright as the morning sun.  I’m going to go be with my ‘guides’.  They’re waiting for me.  You’ll see me again, maybe in this life…maybe in the next one, and my gift will be even better.”

“How would I know you?”  I asked.  “Will you look the same?”

“Oh no,”  she answered.  “I’ll be a different person, but you’ll know it’s me when we meet.  You’ll see.”

I’ve been with several people in the final hours of their life, but never with one so content with the inevitable.

“Don’t worry about me,”  she said as I got up to leave.  “I have to go get fixed.  That’s all.”

She always spoke about numbers and their influence on one’s life.  She claimed 13 was her guiding influence.

For instance, she told me she was born on March 13th.

She was married on June 13th.

She passed away…on July 13th.

Unforgettable.
