Although it took a long time for old man winter to make his return, the shows must go on … the outdoor shows held indoors, that is.
As usual, there is an array of outdoor shows around this area in 2016 that bring just about any outdoor activity to center stage – boating, RVing, fishing, archery, hunting, hiking, climbing … you name it and it will be represented at one or many of the region’s legion of outdoor expos.
For the southwest part of the state there are several shows in January, including the annual Cincinnati Travel, Sports and Boat Show at Duke Energy Center.
“We have sold every inch of our space,” said Vicki Hart, show manager, who pointed out they had 40-square-foot kayak pool added last year and have expanded the use of it this year.
“We kind of kept it quiet last year because we wanted to make sure we knew what we were doing with it,” she said. “It will be used for demonstrations and for people to try out kayaks and other paddle craft.”
Cincinnati’s Joe Thomas will be the show’s headline speaker. And this year he will have some hunting seminars to go along with his bass fishing schedule. Dave Mull will discuss kayak fishing techniques and Dan Armitage will put on his kids fishing seminars.
Rob Lynch, who promotes mostly RV shows around the Midwest and South, has two Dayton shows this year, both at the Airport Expo Center. In January, he has the Cincinnati-Dayton RV Super Show that includes six dealers, In March, he’ll promote the first Dayton All-American Outdoor Expo.
He points out the March show is much more than a boat show, with all sorts of outdoor exhibits, including cooking demonstrations, a kayak pool, fish tank and an array of speakers.
“Right now we are concentrating on our RV shows,” Lynch said, adding, “but when January is over we will be going full bore on the Outdoor Expo. “We have already sold quite a bit of space, but there is more to go. So far it has been going well, a lot more like pre-recession business.”
